While Jit and his colleagues were creating a whole new scene in theatre, he was simultaneously exploring experiences in film and television. He has acted for most of Malaysia’s renowned directors including Shuhaimi Baba, Nasir Jani, Harith Iskander, U-Wei Hj Shaari and most recently, Yasmin Ahmad.

Jit is choosier about film appearances, picking projects for the potential experience. His appearance in Mat Gelap and Selubung earned him Best Supporting Actor nominations and he was selected by director John Boorman (Deliverance, Emerald Forest) to play a lead role in Beyond Rangoon opposite Patricia Arquette and Frances McDormand. Jit also received a screenplay award, Best Local Picture ‘98 for co-writing Layar Lara, directed by Shuhaimi Baba and awards at film festivals in Korea and Belgium respectively.

To add another feather in his cap, Jit has served as Master of Ceremonies for a variety of functions and exclusive events over the years. In fact he has hosted everything from product launches to beauty pageants! In over a decade, Jit Murad has been in the forefront of a generation determined to make performance arts not just economically viable but an integral part of the urban culture.
