As an actor, Jit cut his teeth with leads in plays like Black Comedy, Death of A Salesman, Romeo & Juliet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Peran, As Is, Death & The Maiden, An Actor’s Nightmare, The Merchant of Venice and his memorable performance as Oscar Wilde in Gross Indecency.
Despite his many roles, Jit is perhaps best known for his comedy alter ego, Reneé Choy, the effeminate hairdresser with a cockeyed opinion on every subject. Apart from performing in innumerable clubs and hotels around the Klang Valley, the character was featured by the BBC and Australian TV in 1995 on programmes about political humour in South East Asia. Jit has performed with Malaysia’s best comedians for three years, from 2001 to 2003, in the Malaysian Comedy Fest at Actors’ Studio Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur.
Before theatre became a primary focus, Jit dabbled in just about every type of television role. He has appeared in commercials, sitcoms, telemovies, Hari Raya Specials and has even hosted a couple of series. This accounts for his broad-based recognition, unusual for a theatre personality.
